Matewan Live brings local weather, National Weather Service alerts, Tug Fork river conditions, Matewan rainfall, riding conditions and seasonal information together in one place. It is built to give Hatfield-McCoy Trails riders, visitors and the Matewan community a quick picture of changing conditions before heading out.
The river monitor uses the USGS Tug Fork gauge at Williamson as its live source and presents that information in the context of Matewan flood references. Local rainfall is tracked separately through the Matewan MTWW2 station. The Condition Monitoring System (CMS) compares available weather, rainfall, river and riding information and can display multiple advisories at the same time when conditions warrant.
Live data can occasionally be delayed or unavailable. When that happens, Matewan Live identifies limited or last-known data rather than treating a missing sensor as a normal condition. Official warnings and emergency instructions should always be followed from the appropriate public agency.
